April 30th Update

April 28th Update
Many of the new shoes are still stuck in warehouse due to paperwork problems. When the shoes are finally in stores, we will let everyone know

DVS, Lakai shoes have landed on our shores, we are waiting to clear customs and the earliest we'll get the shoes is friday. *fingers crossed* otherwise it will be Monday.

20/4/09 update
It is taking some time for customs to clear our shoes, they are already sitting in a warehouse in Singapore, don't worry. *Fingers crossed* shoes will be cleared sometime this week. Check back again soon!

Please remember to check which outlets get which shoes. Most models are limited to 2 pairs per size. So grab it quick!

Breaking news: Farewell Frost

It's official! . We received news from Podium Dist that as of today, Eric Koston will no longer be part of Lakai Footwear.

Here's the press statement released from them

Wish we could say this is a belated April Fool’s, but unfortunately that isn’t the case. As of today, Eric Koston will no longer be a part of Lakai Footwear. We have arrived at this decision mutually and believe it will ultimately create a better situation for all parties involved. We thank Eric for his contributions to Lakai over the last three years and wish him well wherever his path may lead.

Now that Eric Koston has left Lakai footwear, where would he go? Go to the polls and vote now!

The Ramp House

Don't you guys just hate the rainy weather in Singapore, all you can do is sit at home, stare at the wall and wait for the rain to stop so you can come out and play?

Maybe you might want to do what this guy has done, and build your own skatepark in your own house.

The Ramp House, Athens by Archivirus

Recently created by Archivirus Architecture and Design, the Ramp House is a response to the client’s request for a “skateable habitat”.
According to architect Athanasia Psaraki, the Ramp House is a project which tries to reconsider and redefine the living space. The result of the client’s request is a curved form interior, which “set the whole house as well as the inhabitant’s life, into motion”.

In the space, which is a roof addition to an existing three-storey building, she tries to achieve a balance between old and new. The dominant material was wood, so a wooden pergola and wooden horizontal louvers surround the new structure, connecting the old and new.

The architect wanted the ‘skateboarding’ element to be more than simply putting a mini ramp in the living room. Rather, the ramp, the bowl and all the interpretations of those terms would actually become the building elements for this space. It is intended to be a ‘ramp house’ and not a ‘house with a ramp’. Straight lines are curved and the flat surface becomes a ramp or a bowl. Basic house elements such as the fireplace and storage units are hidden inside the ramp forms.

The street aesthetics of the skate scene are combined with a home atmosphere by combining concrete and wood. Concrete walls mould into the floor and concrete turns into wood to create a ramp partition with the kitchen. In that way, says the architect, somebody can flow from one space to the other, skating or walking.

Reclaim Land: Kings of Chaos.

Reclaim Land started out as a final-year project by four journalism students — Justin, Shu Yun, Kang Li and Serene — from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information in August 2008 that led to this website.

Here, you will find stories about ordinary people who have created their own places despite living in the city-state of Singapore that is just over 700 kilometres-square in size — so small that some have called it a “little red dot”.

This lack of physical space is why the state justifies such a tight control over how land is used. But it is not so much the physical size that limits this city but rather the looming shadow of the state that clouds it. But in the everyday life, one finds pockets of resistance: a street barber, a kampung community and a crew of skateboarders. These are some of the ordinary people in our stories who through their daily actions re-imagine a new geography of Singapore, one of their own, one that gives birth to the question: Whose city is it anyway?

Do take the time to read through the story called Kings of Chaos, I believe it is the first time a magazine/website has done a in-depth story not only about Go Sports but about skateboarding in Singapore. By the end of next year, when Go Sports is gone from Margaret Drive, hopefully, these articles will be able to bring back the wonderful memories you've had here.

Design a Real Skateboard Ad Contest

Real Skateboards and Slap Magazine just launched a really dope new contest, it’s simple design a Real ad and submit it online. Winners will be picked weekly, grand prize winner monthly.

The instructions and link to download all the components needed to create the ad are found at the site linked below, of course the one thing missing is pure creativity and raw talent, skateboarding has a lot of it and I am sure there will be some great submissions.
